"double helping of global ramifications"

I highly recommend taking some time to read the special report on the global food crisis, The End of Plenty, written by Joel K Bourne Jr and with photographs by John Stanmeyer, in the June issue of Nat Geo. It offers a great perspective on the past, present and future of grain production, health ramifications of the increasing demand (like those discussed in a previous post about Punjabi farmers), population growth, and the desperate need for another green revolution.

It seems crazy to me how American "copyrights" on food or "seeds" hold true in a country where Punjabi or Punjabs reside. A little fact about the the Punjabi, they mainly reside in southern Pakistan on the border of Afghanistan and again on the border with India. They are a group who have been torn by the borders emplaced and now it seems the same peope responsible for that are infringing on traditional farming techniques. Any thoughts??

Yeah... I find it incredibly crappy that seeds are genetically engineered or whatever is done in order to retain market control and prevent farmers from using them year after year. There are so many freakin' issues here...
