Stephen Colbert on SHMEAT

This is great. The clip that is - Not sure how I feel about meat being "grown" just yet, although PETA has given a million bucks to the pioneers of this research so perhaps I'll have to look into it further.

Shmeat segment starts about 1:20 in.

Oddly, I just finished reading a chapter in "The Singularity is Near" about the impact of growing meat.

Benefits: No animal suffering, greatly reduced environmental impact, no exposure to pesticides or disease, and, as the tech gets better and cheaper, massively reduced prices. Oh, as long as you're tinkering with genes you could alter nutritional attributes as well.

Current trends have this becoming viable towards 2020, maybe in the late teens, so I guess we'll see it for ourselves before too much longer.

There are some excellent benefits and it is a topic of interest to me... but nonetheless it creeps me out.
